    F1 2008 is go!

We are proud to announce the release of the new F1 carset for this season! Public games are already in full swing.

    Clan vs Clan

It is now easier to organise and keep track of inter-clan battles with private games. Race only against your clan buddies, or setup clan vs clan race offs.

Although this has always been possible before, private game owners can now define a more strict entry list of certain clans, and a clan championship has been added to the Standings page. Uniquely, this table is also visible in public games and gathers stats for anybody that is a member of a clan.

    MR2 World Series Released

New Kool Tools Function for Private Games

It is now possible for private game owners to alter approx. 10 basic parameters that control the way races are run and calculated, such as reducing the number of driver errors or increasing the amount of carnage at the start.

    [ More Info ]

This function is only available to Kool Tools players, however non-KT players can of course join a private game where these options have been enabled!

The myth of the leading retiree!

There is a bit of an idea going about at the moment that you are more likely to retire from the lead due to game mechanics or even an unpatched bug.

We have put together a technical document banishing this myth using figures taken today from a snapshot of race results.

    Website Performance

The site has been experiencing a little slowdown these past few days as the game continues to prove increasingly popular. We are currently making changes to improve this situation - the end user experience is very important to us!

UPDATE Things should now be getting back to normal after a series of changes and upgrades. We are not quite done yet, but hopefully (if you excuse the poor humour) the corner has been turned!

  • F1 2008 Performance Changes

4 races in we are now modifying the way we set relative car performances for greater realism. By looking at a much wider array of data and putting particular emphasis on race results we are now able to calculate more accurate car and engine performance and reliability.

Furthermore, we are altering the nature of some of the races to partially reflect real world events in the 2008 season without straying too far from the accepted traits at each circuit. This is to provide a little more variety between each successive F1 season.

    A1GP Records

We have removed some A1GP records which we believe were set with an older version of the carset where the races were much shorter. Therefore, impossibly quick race times have been removed. Fastest laps and pole times are unaffected.

    Setup Data Generation Change

The way we generate car setups has been changed. This is unlikely to be a significant factor for casual players since the way you dial in a setup is unchanged, but the details of this change are briefly explained here.

    Minor Join Game Change

The rate at which you can join several public games at once has been changed to once every 3 hours. This does not effect mid-season games and non-KT players.
EDIT: Now only applies to F1 2008.

    Cherry Picking Controls

    Knockout Qualifying

We have finally introduced the 3-stage "knockout qualifying" that has been a feature of F1 over the past few years. An extra dimension is now introduced to qualifying where drivers try to do just enough to get into the final qualifying session before going all out - expect some upsets!

This feature is exclusive to the new F1 2008 carset.
