    Brands Hatch Sprint

    Great Britain - 26th September

The season opener couldn't be at a more ideal location. Britain has long been considered a mecca of motorsport, and the natural amphitheatre of Brands provides a unique experience for both driver and spectator alike. The challenging corners are made extra tricky by elevation changes, none more famous than the daunting Paddock Hill bend at turn one. Rolling start.

    Brands Hatch Feature Race

    Great Britain - 26th September

The longer feature race with pit stops. Qualifying order is determined by your finishing position in the last race. Standing start.

    Eurospeedway Sprint

    Lausitz, Germany - 9th October

The cars race on the infield circuit within this oval, which already has an interesting history. Like most speedways, spectators can view the action from anywhere on the circuit. Rolling start.

    Eurospeedway Feature Race

    Lausitz, Germany - 9th October

The longer feature race with pit stops. Qualifying order is determined by your finishing position in the last race. Standing start.

    Estoril Sprint

    Portugal - 23rd October

A circuit with plenty of GP history, sadly axed in 97, now hosts a round of this championship. From a driver perspective, this circuit is similar to another GP circuit - Barcelona. Rolling start.

    Estoril Feature Race

    Portugal - 23rd October

The longer feature race with pit stops. Qualifying order is determined by your finishing position in the last race. Standing start.

    Eastern Creek Sprint

    Sydney, Australia - 6th November

    Sepang Sprint

    Malaysia - 20th November

A complex and modern circuit, with an impressive main straight and grandstand. Excellent facilities, though high humidity can be tiring for the drivers - but can often result in wet races for the fans. Rolling start.

    Sepang Feature Race

    Malaysia - 20th November

The longer feature race with pit stops. Qualifying order is determined by your finishing position in the last race. Standing start.

    Dubai Sprint

United Arab Emirates - 11th December

A modern recently constructed autodrome. Predominantly flat. Rolling start.

United Arab Emirates - 11th December

The longer feature race with pit stops. Qualifying order is determined by your finishing position in the last race. Standing start.

    Durban Sprint

    South Africa - 29th January

An ocean fronted street circuit, this track consists of a blast along straights punctuated by chicanes. Rolling start.

    Durban Feature Race

    South Africa - 29th January

The longer feature race with pit stops. Qualifying order is determined by your finishing position in the last race. Standing start.

    Sentul Sprint

    Indonesia - 12th February

A very fast wide track provides lot's of opportunities for overtaking. Heat and humidity work against drivers and cars, making reliability and driver errors so high that just finishing the race is an achievement alone. Rolling start.

    Sentul Feature Race

    Indonesia - 12th February

The longer feature race with pit stops. Qualifying order is determined by your finishing position in the last race. Standing start.

    Monterrey Sprint

    Mexico - 26th February

Originally developed for Champcar racing, this is a dramatic circuit around a steelworks with fantastic mountain scenery of Monterrey. A slow circuit, but plenty of overtaking opportunities. A poorly setup car will suffer here. Rolling start.

    Monterrey Feature Race

    California - 12th March

The longer feature race with pit stops. Qualifying order is determined by your finishing position in the last race. Standing start.

    Shanghai Feature Race

    China - 2nd April

This is the last race of the season. Good luck!

    Formula Nations Racing Strategy Game

This carset is inspired by A1GP.

    Format

  • Qualifying: A 60 minute qualifying session with up to 3 laps per car.
  • Sprint Race: Qualifying decides the order for the short Sprint race. The sprint race consists of a rolling start and no pitting.
  • Qualifying 2: There is no 2nd qualifying - results of the sprint race decide the qualifying order for the "Feature" race!
  • Feature Race: Considerably longer than the sprint race, there is no refuelling, but each car must make one stop and change tyres. The race begins with a standing start.

    Points

Points are awarded for each race.

    1st - 10
    2nd - 9
    3rd - 8
    4th - 7
    5th - 6
    6th - 5
    7th - 4
    8th - 3
    9th - 2
    10th - 1

An additional point is awarded during each race for the driver that achieves the fastest lap.

    Special Notes and Hints

There is no refuelling in either of the races - fuel loads are thus identical for each car.

The absence of a second qualifying means after you finish the first race, you go straight into warmup for the second race.

First qualifying may be critical at some of the hard to pass circuits - the sprint race is very short and does not allow you to make big gains and this can carry through to the second race.

Even though the pit stops involve just a tyre change, they are very slow relative to some of the other major single seater series - over 20 seconds!

The first set of tyres has to last for practice, qualifying, warmup and the sprint race - making tyre management important. However, a second fresh set of tyres is released for the feature race.

    Variations to Real A1GP (2005)

  • The length of A1GP races is actually based on time (like Endurance Racing) rather than laps. However, for simplicitys sake we currently run races based on laps - the number of which are displayed on the Race Strategy page for each race. Generally the real A1GP races lasted about 16-18 laps for the Sprint race and 36-38 laps for the Feature Race.
  • Real A1GP only awards one fastest lap bonus point per venue (we award one for each race, or two per venue).
  • Like many BATracer series, qualifing and practice differ from the real thing. This is in the interests of playability rather than to make you endure several days of practice and qualifying sessions.
  • Real A1GP also allows for multiple drivers per team, but only one driver can compete in the race. This is obviously undesirable for gameplay so is not included in the A1GP carset.
  • UPDATE: Both sprint and feature races are now 10-20% longer than the original races, to allow for greater scope in strategy.
