  • Events Calendar

    Melbourne

    Australia - 3rd March

"A fast and challenging circuit, Melbourne is a great season opener. Overtaking isn't easy, and a good setup is important."

    Sepang

    Malaysia - 17th March

"A complex and modern circuit, with an impressive main straight and grandstand. Excellent facilities, though high humidity can be tiring for the drivers - but can often result in wet races for the fans."

    Interlagos

    Brazil - 31st March

"Based in the slums of Sau Paulo, the race often results in a good turn out for the passionate home drivers. On the circuit, many will complain about fatigue from the high speed left hander leading onto the pit straight. The surface is exceptionally bumpy."

    Imola

    San Marino - 14th April

"Famous for being the circuit which killed Ayrton Senna, it's still an emotional place for many. It's often the first opportunity for the Tifosi to pour out on essentially home soil and support the Ferrari team. The circuit is tough and difficult to overtake on."

    Barcelona

    Spain - 28th April

"The Spanish love their motorcycles more than their GP, though the turn out is still reasonable if not entirely spectacular. The circuit is a major test venue throughout the season for all GP teams. As a result the racing can appear to be processional."

    A1-Ring

    Austria - 12th May

"Set deep in the Austrian mountains surrounded by rolling hills, pine trees and cattle it's a beautiful place to race. The circuit itself features some elevation changes and suffers from an unforgiving surface that will test the very best drivers."

    Monaco

    Monte-Carlo - 26th May

Surely the most famous and glamorous GP circuits is the toughest of them all - with a beautiful harbour and many bars to visit. The narrow streets are real nightmare in an GP car and the race duration requires huge levels of stamina. Driver errors result.

    Montreal

    Canada - 9th June

The Canadians still love their GP - though have often gone unrewarded in support for their local hero. A temporary street circuit results in high speeds and heavy breaking. Rain is not uncommon.

    Nurburgring

    European GP - 23rd June

"Next to the legendary and original 13 mile circuit, GP cars still come to the modern safer equiverlent of today. The drivers seem generally happy with the circuit even if it appears a bit bland relative to the old circuit. Historically the modern circuit as offered some good racing."

    Silverstone

    England - 7th July

"A very famous circuit and the modern home of motorsport for many. There are some fantastic sweeping bends - especially near the opening Beckets section. This is generally a high speed circuit, though is still vulnerable to the British weather."

    Magny Cours

    France - 21st July

"A modern autodrome deep in the centre of France, drivers will note it for it's long haul up the hill into a slow right hander which is by far the best overtaking point."

    Hockenheim

    Germany - 28th July

"Butchered for 2002, many will miss the very high speed circuit which consisted mainly of a collection of straights joined by chicanes and a stadium section. The statium remains, with the rest of the circuit being shorter and slower."

    Hungaroring

    Hungary - 18th August

A natural bowl is the home for Hungary's race. Notoriously difficult to overtake on - often described as Monaco without the barriers - it's a real challenge for the drivers and qualifying becomes very important.

    Spa-Francorchamps

    Belgium - 1st September

"Considered by most drivers to be one of the most challenging circuits, the elevation changes, high speed corners - especially Eau Rouge make this race one to look forward to. The weather is highly changeable and can put a spanner in the works of a well thought out strategy."

    Monza

    Italy - 15th September

Facing all of the drivers are huge long straights punctuated by chicanes... most notable turn one the scene of some interesting accidents.

    Indianapolis

    United States - 29th September

"Run on part of the oval - in reverse - it's quite a spectacle, though the infield section has been described as mickey mouse by some. It's a challenge for the teams to decide on the correct setup and strategy - do they take into account the main straight or allow for the tight and very slow infield section?"

    Suzuka

    Japan - 13th October

"The final race of the season is where scores need to be settled. A very challenging circuit, it requires plenty of thought and attention to secure a good result."

    Special Notes

During the dominating years of Team Wales in Grand Prix racing at the start of the 21st century, the sport became rather boring in some peoples eyes. This is reflected in this championship by ample number of tyres, a high chance of obtaining a perfect setup, and fewer on-track incidents, etc.
