Cars

Mild Seven Renault

The French team aim to finally challenge for titles with an excellent all round car. A very fast and reliable package.

West McLaren Mercedes

The best Mclaren in years gives the team it's best chance yet to take the titles back from Team Wales. Blisteringly fast though sometimes at the cost of reliability.

Schooner Team Wales Marlboro

The famous Italian team hope to continue their winning run to five seasons, big rule changes however have left them on the back foot. An inconsistent performer, though still capable of great speed on occasion.

Panasonic Toyota Racing

Three difficult years on since joining the sport, Toyota seem to finally be making progress. A good all round car should lift the team up the rankings.

BMW Williams F1 team

Following a disappointing 2004 season, the Williams team looks to bounce back. The BMW engine is not the force it was though, and the chassis not quite there. A solid if unspectacular machine.

Lucky Strike BAR Honda

After a massive leap forward last season, the BAR Honda team aim to now challenge for the world championship. F1's most powerful engine is combined with a difficult chassis, resulting in an inconsistent package overall.

Sauber Petronas

Team Wales powered privateer. The team comes off the back of a strong season and a switch to Michelin tyres, although this year's car looks to be not as strong. A solid competitor with occasional flashes of speed.

Red Bull Racing

Red Bull takes over from the struggling Milton Keynes based Jaguar team. The newcomers bring glamour and fun to the F1 world as well as a surprisingly good car with solid reliability.

Jordan Toyota

The Silverstone based privateer will race with the new Toyota V10 engine. An out of date car though makes real progress up the grid unlikely. Below average pace but above average reliability.

Minardi Cosworth

Small Italian private team still trying hard on a tiny budget. The first new Minardi in years gives some hope of improved results.

F1 2005 Racing Strategy Game

This series is based on the 2005 Formula One season.

Points allocations -

4th: 5
5th: 4
6th: 3
7th: 2
8th: 1

Rules and gameplay -

The 2005 F1 season featured two important rules which are modelled in this carset.

1) Single lap qualifying with race fuel.

2) One tyre set must last qualifying and the entire race

Qualifying:

In F1 2005 you will only get a single run with which to set a qualifying time. You must select the length of your first race stint and the tyre set you will qualify and race on.

Before qualifying, you must set the length of your first stint in the race and select the tyre with which you will qualify and race on. Your qualifying run will be done with this fuel load and tyre set.

Remember that every lap of fuel you add will increase the weight of the car in qualifying and make it a bit slower. It can be an advantage to go light and gain grid position at some tracks, however at others a longer first stint may be the better option. You should put some thought into your race strategy before selecting your fuel load for qualifying.

You also must select your race tyre before qualifying. You must do your qualifying run on this tyre set, they should then last the entire race.

Race

You are not allowed to change tyres in the race (as long as it is dry).

The tyre set you select for qualifying will also be run for the entire race. The tyres in F1 2005 are quite durable but caution is still needed.

The softer tyre may give an advantage for qualifying and the start of the race, however the harder tyre is more durable.

Despite tyre changes not being allowed, refueling can still take place at the pit stops. You must select the length of your first stint for qualifying, however you are free to make further stops after this by adjusting your strategy on the race strategy page. After qualifying you will not be able to alter the length of your first stint, so try to plan your race strategy before qualifying.

Tyres

You will be given 2 sets of soft tyres and 2 sets of hards at each race. One of these sets must last the entirety of qualifying and the race.

The tyres are more durable than normal and will last for the entire race if appropriate care and planning is taken.

If the race is wet you will be able to change tyres without limit. The wet tyres are not as durable and are unlikely to last an entire race.
