CarsDallama | This Italian manufacturer is now used by all the teams in the series, and is set to carry on dominating at least until new rules come into force in a few years time.Despite critisim of their chassis design, they still form an itegral part of the sereis. |
EnginesHinda V8 | This Japanese car manufacturer has been in the series a few years, and in that time has concentrated on making incredibly reliable engines. As such, engine failure is now a rarity in the series. |
TyresFireswift Alternate 'Reds' | A soft compound tyre for use on street and road courses | Fireswift Primary 'Blacks' | The harder option on the road and street courses, used primarily for racing | Fireswift Speedway | The tyre used on the ovals in the series, where it offers speed and durability | Fireswift Rains | Tyre for racing on a wet track, as may be found on road and street courses. |
Events CalendarStreets of São Paulo | São Paulo, Brazil | A brand new street circuit in Brazil kicks off the season. The event appears to be popular, helped by the presence of many Brazilian drivers on the grid and the exciting track layout, with more than one good overtaking oppertunity a lap. | | 14th MarchStreets of St. Petersburg | St. Petersburg, Florida | A street circuit that has been part of the series for some time now, and that has seen some memorable races. It has many oppertunities to overtake, and often produces an interesting race. The course utalises both city streets and part of the airport. | | 4th AprilBarber Motorsports Park | Birmingham, Alabama | A road course that has been used previously for testing, but is new to the series as a race venue. The circuit is considered one of the most beautiful in the country, being descirbed as 'The Augusta of Motorsports', but the first race failed to excite. | | 11th AprilLong Beach Street Circuit | Long Beach, California | A historic race on a street circuit, formerly part of the world championship, but now firmly part of the north american series. Like all street circuits, there is much difficulty for the drivers, with no room for error, and also few oppertunities to pass. | | 18th AprilKansas Speedway | Kansas City, Kansas | Back to the 1.5 mile ovals for a 300 mile race, before the month of May and the big race. Kansas may not be as popular now as it was a few years back, with the race in high summer, but still is an important race, with Indianapolis just round the corner. | | 25th AprilIndianapolis 500 | Speedway, Indiana | The big race, and the one they all want to win. The winner after 200 laps of the 2.5 mile speedway will go down in the record books, and many legends have made their names here in years gone by. Who will win and drink the milk in victory lane? | | 30th MayThe Milwaukee Mile | Milwaukee, Wisconsin | The oldest purpose built speedway in the world continues to host a race, despite issues with the management. Still in the traditional race time of the week after the 500, it often throws up an exciting race. | | 6th JuneTexas Motor Speedway | Fort Worth, Texas | The second longest race on the calendar, on this fast, highbanked oval. Sure to be a drmatic night, with some of the best racing on show in the series. Now the second most prestigious oval race in the series, it's going to be a long night. | | 13th JuneIowa Speedway | Newton, Iowa | A most rare venue, a modern short track. Built as recently as 2005, this race has since got a firm home in the series. A very fast track, and not always the best racing, but usually has some excitement for the fans. | | 20th JuneRichmond International Raceway | Richmond, Virginia | A true short track, used by both stock cars and open wheelers. Although some editions of this race have been uninteresting, with leader often struggling to pass even backmarkers a lap down, it still has a great atmosphere. | | 27th JuneWatkins Glen International | Watkins Glen, New York | One of the first road courses in the series, and seen as a classic race track, after years of hosting the US grand prix. One of the faster road courses on the calendar, this race seems to be popular with drivers and fans alike. | | 11th JulyStreets of Toronto | Toronto, Ontario, Canada | A circuit on the city centre streets over the border in Toronto, this makes up the first half of the Canadian excusion for the series. The circuit has all the normal challenges associated with street circuits, giving the drivers no room for error. | | 18th JulyEdmonton City Centre Airport | Edmonton, Alberta, Canada | The series stays in Canada for another week, on this airport circuit. The circuit makes use of the runways and taxiways, and consequently is very high speed, but a bumpy surface makes like difficult for the drivers. | | 24th JulyKentucky Speedway | Sparta, Kentucky | Back to US soil for a race on a 1.5 mile oval, a stable for the series. The race has been on the calendar since 2000, and is now well established. | | 22nd AugustMid Ohio Sports Car Course | Lexington, Ohio | One of the classic north american road courses, with much use around the year. The race has long been an important part of the open wheeler series, and this continues today, with the August race. | | 1st AugustInfineon Raceway | Sonoma, California | A circuit in California, that plays host to a variety of events, including stock cars and drag races as well as openwheelers. The circuit isn't always well suited to exciting racing, but is a challenge for the drivers, and the teams. | | 15th AugustChicagoland Speedway | Joliet, Illinois | A classic circuit which rarly delivers a dull race, and always plays an important part in deciding the championship. The speedway is rather standard, one and a half miles and moderatly banked, but has no straight at all, instead always turing left. | | 18th SeptemberTwin Ring Motegi | Motegi, Japan | Over the water to Japan, and this egg shaped oval circuit. The shape makes the track a challenge, it isn't quite the norm, and cars are unoften good in both the open end of the speedway at turns 1 and 2, and the tighter 3 and 4. | | 5th SeptemberHomestead-Miami Speedway | Homestead, Florida | The first oval race of the season, with a night race on this high variably banked oval in south Florida. This track is often the scene of some interesting races, and reminds us of memoral moments. | | 28th March | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
IndyCar Generic Remake Racing Strategy GameThis is a generic carset representing the period of Indycar racing from 2008-11. It is much like the original carset, which was based only off the 2008 season, but with a few changes. The calendar has been changed, as has some of the data. Qualifying is now run in a way more similar to the actual format on road courses, and the tyres have been changed.
Specialisations
These still exist unchanged for the drivers, but no longer are in play for the teams, due to the carset being generic. Note that the new calendar contains 10 ovals and 9 road courses, which is more balanced than previously.
Practice
In the real IndyCar series, road courses are held over three days, and ovals over two. The exception is Indianapolis, which has an entire month of practice. Therefore, a warmup session between qualifying and the race is scheduled on the road courses, and at Indy (where it is known as Carb Day), but not on the other ovals. This is reflected in the carset by how many runs you get for warmup. On road courses and at Indy, you get many, generally four or five. At all other ovals, you only get one. However, you also get slightly more runs at the ovals in the initial practice, as teams in the real series can often make better use of the time available to them at the start of the weekend.
Qualifying
Qualifying on ovals is decided in the same way as in the previous set, with four lap averages used. On road courses, it is knockout qualifying, similar to that used in recent F1 sets and DTM, and also similar to the actual IndyCar qualifying format. This sees 12 cars advancing to the second session, and 6 competing in the final session, the Firebug Fast Six.
Tyres
There are four types of tyres. On the road courses, you have reds, which are a soft tyre, blacks, which are harder, and rains for use when it is wet. These tyres will still appear in the list of available tyres on ovals, but using them is not a wise idea, and they are unavailable to real teams on the ovals. You will get 4 of each on the road and street courses, and can use them as you wish. For the ovals, you are restricted to the speedway tyres, of which you will get between 7 and 11 at each oval race. Do not use the speedway tyres on road courses, for they are unsuitable, and in the real series unavailable, so are designed to not work very well at all.
Team Limits
Whilst you are allowed four car teams, there can only be one per game so to prevent them taking out the little guys in the single car teams. Also, there are limits on teams with at least three cars (4), and teams with at least two (10), to make sure that the series stays competitive.
