Converting Your Set-up for Different Weather There are 12 different weather values, shown below, ranging from Bone Dry to Storm. Therefore to convert a set-up from Bone Dry to Storm we must go through eleven weather changes.
Bone Dry = 0% Wet Factor Greasy = 9% Wet Factor Moist= 18% Wet Factor Drizzle = 27% Wet Factor Light Rain = 36% Wet Factor Rain = 45% Wet Factor Wet and Slippery = 54% Wet Factor Steady Rain = 63% Wet Factor Heavy Rain = 72% Wet Factor Treacherous Rain = 81% Wet Factor Monsoon = 90% Wet Factor Storm = 100% Wet Factor
Let’s say there is a practice session in Bone Dry conditions, but the weather for qualifying is Heavy Rain. As we are starting off on the Bone Dry, we need to go through eight weather conditions out of eleven to reach the correct value. Through each stage of the weather you must make a change of 9% of the value on the engineers advice. A change through 3 weather stages is a 27% change. Through 10 is a 90% change. In the case of this qualifying session we have a 72% change.
Next click on ‘Engineers Advice’ above the lap table on Car Setup.
For example, the spot-on value for Gears might be 75. If we look at the Engineers Advice, it tells us that to convert Gears to the fully wet we must minus 5. Therefore the Storm value for Gears would be 70. However we do not want a full wet set-up, we want a wet change of 72%. So we must find 72% of the change (-5), which is approximately -4. Therefore we minus 4 from the dry value, so your qualifying value should be 71.
If we want a formula for the changes you make, it should be this.
P + (72% x E) = Q
Key -
E is the number in Engineers Advice P is the spot-on dry value, or the middle of your two values Q is the correct value to use for qualifying
I will do another example using the formula, this time taking a Rear Anti-Brake Bias of 65, therefore 65.
P = 65 E = -30
65 + (72% x -30) 65 + - 22 65 - 22 = 43
Therefore the Qualifying (Q) value is 43.
The formula is the exact reverse if we want to make a wet set-up drier. To convert a Heavy Rain set-up to Bone Dry (the opposite of above) we simply add instead of minus and minus instead of plus. -4 for the Gears becomes +4. -22 for the Rear Brake Bias becomes +22.
