A guide to playing GP 2005 (Tyre and Race Strat rules)

Since a lot of people seem to be getting confused over the tyre selection and race strategy rules I thought I'd give a short guide on what to do.. until the bugs (or unfortunate side effects..) get ironed out this will keep you out of trouble.

SELECTING TYRES FOR QUALIFYING AND RACE

On the qualifying strategy page you must select your tyre and how hard you wish to push.

The tyre you select will be used for your qualifying run and the entire race.

You are not allowed to change tyres at all in the race. The game will handle this automatically providing you:

On the race strategy page, only tick the box of the dry tyre compound you are using (Do not un-tick both or tick both). If you selected the soft tyre for qualifying only tick the soft tyre box. If you selected the hard tyre, only tick the hard tyre box.

If you do not follow this, it is likely that you will change your tyres illegally and retire from the race a few laps later.

You can leave both your wet tyre boxes ticked and nothing bad will happen.

On the race strategy page, your tyre selection will be ignored unless it is wet. If the race is wet, you may change to wet tyres.

Fuel strategy for qualifying and race

You will get 1 single lap with which to qualify, on this lap you will carry your fuel for the first stint of the race. The more fuel (longer stint) the slower your lap will be, however going light may damage your chances in the race.

Before qualifying go to the race strategy page, select how many stops you wish to do in the race and set your fuel strategy. The number of laps you enter till your first stop will be the fuel you carry into qualifying.

With your fuel strategy and tyre selection now set, do your practice runs.. or if you did them before all this sit back and wait for qualifying.

Once qualifying has taken place you can do one more warmup lap before the race.

More importantly, you can now edit your race strategy (to an extent). DO NOT CHANGE the number of stops you intend to do in the race from the number you set before qualifying. For now to avoid cheating, the number of stops are locked after qualifying.

You may alter the length of your stints after the first one (remember you can not change your first stint now).

Now you should be ready to go.. and hopefully not retire covered in a mass of burning exploding rubber!
