(Copy) GP 2009 guide (KERS and fuel explained)

A guide to playing GP 2009

It's only a first version to start off with and more accurate information will be added as time progesses.

This guide is mainly designed to help people who are unsure about the new GP 09 carset and its new rules, but also anybody else who finds themselves a little confused.

This doesn't give everything away like saying which tracks to use KERS at, as that is for you to find out ;).

The new GP 2009 carset has been released, and with it a couple of new additions. GP 2009 has probably seen the biggest changes between a season, with the different design of cars, a new track in Abu Dhabi and the all new KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System).
The 2 main additions to this carset are the KERS and the rule where you have to choose your fuel load for the final qualifying session (Q3).

Explanation of KERS
The aim of KERS is to energy that is lost while braking. This energy can then be used for power boosts during the lap. It provides and extra 80 HP for approx. 6.7 seconds per lap. This can be used to assist in overtaking and defending your position.

KERS in BATracer (GP 2009)
In GP 09, you have the option of using KERS for the race. When considering whether to use it, take into account that it also has its disadvantages, such as possible reliability problems and the weight disadvantage it brings to the car. Also, it may not be as effective on some tracks as it is on others, so you would be making your car heavier on a track where it has no use.

Another thing to consider would be your qualifying position. For example, if you qualify very low down the field, it would be worth taking a gamble and using KERS to try and assist you in moving up the field. Even if there is a disadvantage of using KERS at that particular circuit, you have nothing to lose from a very low qualifying.

If you start at the front of the grid, then you have a harder choice to make. If you have faster cars behind you, you could use KERS to try and prevent them from overtaking you, but if you are running a light stint, the extra weight of having KERS onboard could slow you down by a few tenths of a second each lap and this could ruin your strategy and race.

NOTE: Other factors affecting the usefulness of KERS could include the weather, but this isn't exactly known at the moment.

Fuel strategies (carrying the fuel in Q3)
Before qualfying, you have to select your 1st pit stop for the race. Whatever lap you select, you will carry the weight of fuel in the final qualfying session (Q3), if you make it. After Q3 has finished, you can no longer adjust your 1st pit stop.

When selecting your pitstop, take into account a number of factors that could enchance your qualifying/race performance and have a negative effect on your qualifying/race performance.

As I get more experience playing the GP 09 carset, I will update and add new infomation to this guide.

If anyone else has any idea for what else i could add to this guide, feel free to send me a message ;).
