Classic 1986 Carset Guide

From my experience in the Classic 1986 carset, I would say that it is best to go with these strategies:

*SESSIONS*

Practice/Warmup-You should use your soft compound during these sessions, and run your experimentation around 60-80 unless you have the Thinker driver characteristic.

Qualifying-You should either use the Qualifying Tire or Q Tire (depending on what team you have, the names varies), otherwise your pace will not be good.

Race-You can almost always guarantee yourself that hard compounds are the best all around during the race, unless the race is held under wet conditions. When you use the hard compound, you do not have to pit at all.

*DRIVER CHARACTERISTICS*

If you are experienced at this game, you will probably have noticed the excess use of the combination of Speed Demon and Wet Weather Warrior in the modern Formula One carsets. However, I do not recommend using this combination in the 1986 set. The most fitting combinations in this carset are often Speed Demon with Committed or Speed Demon with Concentration.

*SLIDERS*

If you go with the driver characteristics I recommended above, you will also need to know where to set your sliders for the combo to work appropriately. Set your Pace sliders in the range of 90-100 (I go for broke, on 100). Your aggression should be rather low, as setting it too high can result in numerous failures to finish. These are fragile cars we're dealing with, after all. It works best in the range of 20-40. Your use of tires and mechanical sympathy should also be within that range, as you would not want to shred your tires before the finish or have a mechanical failure in a crucial part of the race. Your pit stop speeds should be in the range of 64-80, that often works best. Your race start can lean a little more to the offensive side, I usually set mine at 58 or 60.

-Lastly-

As always, cooperate with your teammates! Doing so can result in points finishes in cars like the Zakspeed, so you can be rewarded for your efforts in even the worst of cars. Best of luck to you in your championship. ;)
